The Fleece Medical Society

چکیده
the Old Fleece Inn. The original building in which Jenner and his friends met is now a private residence Hillgrove House on the A46 (Figure 1). Two of the five members founding the Fleece Medical Society, Edward Jenner of Berkeley and John Hickes of Gloucester, were already members of the Convivio-Medical Society meeting at the Ship Inn at Alveston near Bristol, a largely social club whose members were threatening to expel Jenner for his insistence on the importance of Coxpox as a protection against Smallpox. This may have been the spur that brought these five friends together to form what was, I believe, the oldest provincial medical society of which records still exist. The minutes are preserved, thanks to Sir William Osier who bought them from Dr. Alfred Henry Carter of Birmingham and later bequeathed them to the Royal College of Physicians in whose library they have been since 1928.

Air movement and heat loss from sheep. III. Components of insulation in a controlled environment.
The rate of sensible heat loss from a Clun Forest ewe was studied at several fleece depths in a temperature-controlled chamber. A simple resistance analogue was used to describe the heat flow from different body regions. Heat loss from the trunk depends largely on the mean fleece depth l. The fleece resistance was about 1.5 s cm-1 per centimetre depth. Heat transfer through the fleece was accou...

This study was conducted to investigate the hair production and fleece characteristics of hairy goats according to the sex and age of animals. The material of the study consisted one total data of 73 hair goats, which were between more than one year-old and one year-old Lori goats from both sexes (26 males and 47 females). The overall fleece weight, fiber length, lock length, washing yield, hai...
متن کاملTransfer processes in animal coats. I. Radiative transfer.
A silicon cell and a radiometer were used to measure the transmission of short wave (0.4—1 pim) and long wave (3-100 ptm) radiation through the coats of sheep and cattle. The reflectivity of the same coats was measured in a spectrophotometer. Measurements of transmission and reflexion were interpreted in terms of a theory of radiation scattering developed (for vegetation) by Cowan (1971), assum...
